Inservice Training

Network's training program addresses quality care issues and promotes best practice that is sustainable for all involved in OOSH – children, staff, committees, family, and community.

Training focuses on 3 key areas:

  • Quality programming
  • Quality management
  • Quality professional development

All training sessions on offer will assist towards meeting the Quality Areas in the Quality Practices Guide for Outside School Hours Care  and contribute to your centre's successful implementation of Quality Assurance.

Training is conducted in metropolitan, non-metropolitan and rural locations across NSW. Location of training reflects service distribution, taking into consideration OOSH centres approved by the Commonwealth Department of Family and community Services (DFaCS) as Child Care Benefit (CCB) providers. In response to the sector's needs Network has scheduled half day, evening and one day sessions. Country weekend residentials are also held.

All In-service courses give links to the National Training Packages specifically CHC40402 Cert IV in Out of School Hours Care and CH50202 Diploma of Out of School Hours Care.

Vocational Training (accredited)

National Providor Number: 90537

Network of Community Activities is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) under the Australian Qualifications Training Framework (AQTF).

Vocational Education and Training (VET) is linked to nationally endorsed competency standards in National Training Packages. As an RTO, Network is able to issue a range of Qualifications and Statements of Attainment through training. Accredited Training provides opportunities for participants to either add to their existing qualifications or ‘gap skill' where required if undertaking a recognition pathway.

Network has developed a Recognition Pathway for the Out of School Hours Qualifications. Recognition includes Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Current Competency (RCC). RPL allows participants who hold a current qualification that is equivalent to the units for which they seek recognition, to be declared competent. Alternatively participants may provide evidence of a qualification, together with current history of relevant industry experience and a supervisor's report to address any gaps. Where a participant does not hold a qualification, RCC gives them the opportunity to provide examples from their current work that demonstrates sufficient evidence of competence.

Network's scope of registration includes the Certificate IV in Out of School Hours Care and the Diploma of Out of School Hours Care. Enrolments have commenced in the Certificate IV with the Diploma due to commence mid-2006.

Participants must be able to demonstrate competency in the Certificate IV in Out of School Hours Care before commencing the Diploma.

Network also offers some individual modules as part of our accredited training. Participants can attend the following sessions and complete assessment tasks to receive a Statement of Attainment.
• Food is Fun - CHCCN3C Prepare Nutritionally Balanced Food in a Safe and Hygienic Manner.
• Identify and Respond to Children at Risk of Harm - CHCCHILD1C Identify and Respond to Children at Risk of Harm.
• OH&S in OOSH - CHCOHS401A Implement and Monitor OHS Policies and Procedures for a Workplace.

These courses will be listed in our Training Brochure.

Existing Worker Traineeships

Network understands how difficult it can be to work and access affordable, relevant training.  We have been investigating how to address this imbalance and to encourage OOSH professionals to access our Cert IV and Diploma in OOSH workplace recognition pathways.

We are extremely excited to announce that Network as an RTO can now offer Existing Worker Traineeships to approved applicants.  The Traineeship payments would be used to fund enrolment in Network’s Certificate IV and Diploma programs.

Existing Worker Traineeships give incentive payments to services to help offset the cost of accredited training pathways.

What does this mean for you?

  • The Federal Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) will pay up to $4,000 to the service per worker to cover tuition, study leave and related costs.
  • The Traineeship runs for 2 years, workers must remain employed at the service for the whole Traineeship program.

How can you apply?

  • Complete the Expression of Interest form from our website and send back to Network.  These will be considered and we’ll let you know your eligibility.
  • Please note that conditions apply and all applicants must be approved by Network in partnership with an Apprenticeship Centre before commencing traineeships.

Children's Services Central

Network has received funding from CSCentral to run three streams of training for OOSH services: Management training, curriculum and programming training and accreditation training.

These three streams will be using our existing inservices courses and some newly developed sessions such as regulations updates, activity ideas and transition to school and OOSH.

These courses will be advertised in Network's own training calendars in 2007 and 2008 and also part of the CSCentral training brochure that is sent to all services twice a year.

The only difference in accessing this form of training is that services need to book and pay through CSCentral, all other aspects of the training are handled by Network.
