OOSH Recipes

Network is developing a new publication and we’d like your help!  We’re putting together a cook book for OOSH and vacation care services using your recipes and ideas. The book will focus on healthy, inexpensive recipes that can feed a large group of hungry OOSH kids.  Please use the template below to submit your ideas or send in your own info.

We’d like to try and collect some unique OOSH recipes that have worked for you rather than pulling existing ones out of books.  You may have used some existing recipes but adapted them for larger numbers.  If they are out of another book please provide us with the name of the book.

We’d also like to include a few pictures of some of the recipes that have been drawn by children so get your group to start drawing their fave foods.

Please send your ideas to Katherine Newton in the office by Friday 26th September either by:

Advice about Work Choices

Network has recently been informed by Jobs Australia that the majority of stand alone OOSH Services are seen as constitutional trading corporations and therefore fall under the Federal Government Work Choices. Very large organizations that offer more than children’s services will need to seek their own advice as the classification is based on the activities of the organization as a whole not just the OOSH side of service delivery.

What does this mean for services?

All staff should be paid under the NAPSA rates for the Miscellaneous Workers Child care Award. These rates are not found on the NSW Department of Industrial Relations site, but rather the Federal Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) on the WorkChoices website.

Currently that award is slightly higher than the state award and all staff will need to be back paid to the commencement of the award on 1 December 2006.

Services will be required to move to workplace agreements in 2008. NO employee can be forced to accept a Australian Workplace Agreement (AWA), this is illegal.
Following the Federal election in the end of 2007 there may be further changes to the Industrial Relations in Australia. Network recommended paying staff using the NAPSA pay scales but not entering into any other agreements at this stage.

What is Network doing?

Network will work be working closely with the Union, Jobs Australia and services to assist in the development of some standard collective agreements for the future that will preserve stability in the sector and work to the mutual benefit of OOSH Services, staff and families in NSW.

New Child Care Management System (CCMS)

The Australian Government is developing a National Child Care Management System (CCMS). Given the importance of this change for the child care sector, FaCSIA will undertake a consultation process across the child care industry during the development and implementation of this national system.

The National System will not be introduced into OOSH until July 2008. Long day care and Family Day Care will commence in 2007.

As part of this consultation process a CCMS Information Paper and Draft Service Provider Interface Specifications will be on the FaCSIA website www.facsia.gov.au and advertised in national press. The child care sector, software providers and the Australian public are invited to comment on these documents up until the 15 December 2006. Network will be providing a response on behalf of members so your feedback to us is critical.

FaCSIA will also be conducting a series of consultations across Australia , in Sydney this will be held on Wednesday 29 November 9-12pm.

The general (draft) format will involve:

  • Introduction
  • Briefing by FACSIA – more detailed around issues that might need some working through
  • Short session before morning tea in small groups so people discuss and record additional questions
  • Morning Tea
  • FACSIA to provide answers to questions or take these on notice those they are not in a position to answer. They will provide answers to these on their website
  • People will be given an opportunity to submit any other questions they have and FACSIA will commit to answering these directly an via website.

It would be good if you could be there if in Sydney, Network will ensure we have representation there on your behalf so your feedback prior to this time will help us advocate on your behalf.
Also your feedback from the information paper will also allow us to prepare a written response, please send to me at robyn@netoosh.org.au.

PLACES for PLAY - Online Play Spaces Exhibition

PLAYLINK and the Free Play Network have created this exhibition to illustrate some of the many imaginative ways of creating play environments.

The photos are intended to inspire a more imaginative approach to the creation of play spaces and public space, based on the needs and wishes of children.

They are not intended as models for wholesale replication: each play space should be an individual response to its own locality, but based on sound play principles.
